Mentoring & Support for Registered Dietitians
Are you a dietitian new to ketogenic diet therapies?
Are you working alone in ketogenics with little or no support?
Are you feeling stuck in a rut with your research dissertation or project?
How I can help
I am a Registered Dietitian with a wealth of experience in various sectors, including clinical practice, academia and consultancy. I am passionate about developing relationships with the people I work with and supporting them to realise their full potential. I have mentored and and supported:
- children, their families, and adults undertaking ketogenic diet therapies
- colleagues new to paediatrics and ketogenic diet therapies
- Dietitians attending Matthew’s Friends KetoCollege and KetoCollege Advance
- Dietitians to achieve their MSc in Advanced Professional Practice in Paediatric Dietetics at the University of Plymouth.
- Dietitians attending the Nutricia Global Keto Dietitians Mentorship Programme
I have worked with ketogenic diet therapies throughout my career in both a clinical and research capacity. Firstly, in acute hospitals in the NHS, specialising in paediatric dietetics and ketogenic diet therapies. Then academia, as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Nottingham and the University of Plymouth and now as a director at The Keto Dietitian and honorary research fellow with the University of Pymouth.
Clinical mentorship
Ketogenic diet therapies are a truly rewarding and exciting speciality to work in. However, it can be a daunting area of dietetics to get to grips with. Dietitians new to ketogenics often find themselves isolated as the only KD dietitian in the team! As a professional mentor, I can help you work through clinical problems, help develop your clinical reasoning skills and build confidence in your decision making. I can support you as you reason your way through the ‘what if’ scenarios and questions that arise in a busy clinical setting.
Research mentorship
In addition to my clinical work, I led the MSc Advanced Professional Practice in Paediatric Dietetics Programme at the University of Plymouth, delivered in partnership with the Paediatric Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association. It was so rewarding to mentor specialist paediatric dietitians through their MSc journey and supervise their research dissertations which included systematic reviews, quantitative and qualitative study designs.
My mixed methods research is focused on KD therapy and I collaborate on various research projects with colleagues internationally. I led a programme of research entitled ‘Core Outcomes for Refractory childhood Epilepsy treated with Ketogenic Diet Therapy’ (the CORE-KDT study) for my PhD, graduating in 2023.
We are recruiting a PhD student to continue this programme of research and I will be part of the supervisory team.
Research can sometimes feel like a roller coaster. I will support you to develop strategies to enable you to successfully manage your research journey and most importantly to celebrate the little wins along the way.
So, get in touch if you would like to discuss how I can support you through clinical or research mentorship. Together, we can build your confidence and advance your clinical or research skills.
I have felt strongly supported as a student. She enhanced the development of exceptional rapport, providing effective and constructive feedback, prioritising reflection and, therefore continuous learning. Jennifer has great qualities that makes her an exceptional mentor. She is honest, non judgmental, knowledgeable, a good listener and strongly willing to devote time to support others.
I feel that having her as a mentor has indeed guided me in an enjoyable manner through my journey as a student. Additionally, Jennifer strongly supported me through the process of getting my HCPC registration. I also had her guidance for getting my first job as a Graduate Dietitian.
I am very grateful to have met Jennifer as a mentor and as a wonderful person who has offered me exceptional ongoing continuous support
